The Last Light - A Warrior Cat Story
Chapter I
When Duskpaw woke up that morning, she knew something was wrong. Yellowpaw and Rootpaw were gone, and she always got up before them. Maybe they got assigned dawn patrol, she thought, getting to her paws. I'm sure they're alright.
"Get her!" Duskpaw whipped around at the cry, to see her littermates leaping at her. "Ah! Help!" She squeaked in alarm as Yellowpaw and Rootpaw landed on top of her. "Haha, we got you!" Yellowpaw rolled off her sister, still laughing. "Rootpaw, get off her," she added, dragging him off.
"Sorry, Duskpaw, but we couldn't help it," Rootpaw mewed, licking her ear. Duskpaw sighed. "It's alright. You only bothered me a little. Are you hungry?" Yellowpaw nodded cheerfully, and the apprentices left the den. Once at the fresh-kill pile, Duskpaw grabbed a rabbit big enough to feed her and her littermates, and they settled in the shade to eat.
As she ate, she watched Snakefoot orginizing patrols. She admired the lean tom, and was pleased he was her mentor. Plus, he's handsome. "Duskpaw! When you're finished eating, we're going to train." Snakefoot called to her. "Okay, Snakefoot! I'll be right there!" She hurriedly swallowed the last of her rabbit piece and raced over to her mentor. "Ready? Good." He meowed approvingly. "Let's go."
